The Halloween Haunted Maze, that was ordered to be taken down by town officials, is back, although a lot smaller.

Homeowner Patricia Williams has agreed to limit the annual attraction on Burnaby Drive in Keswick to her garage.

She has held the event for 15 years to raise funds for Southlake Regional Health Centre’s cancer unit.

Council was told the maze was over the 10-square-metre limit and required a building permit, was in violation of town zoning bylaws and represented a fire hazard because it had “limited means of accessing and exiting the structure ... and some of the materials used didn’t meet the standards.

Mrs. Williams has to meet with town planning staff if she plans to extend the maze out to her driveway next year.

She must also get written approval from the fire department that the maze is safe.

Mayor Rob Grossi expressed some concern that fire inspections on similar Halloween displays may prove too difficult to handle.

“There are lots of people doing this in their garages,” he said.

Staff will examine the issue.
