This year at the Markham Fair, hot air balloons were all the rage.
Carson and Weeks Insurance Brokers partnered with AVIVA-Pilot Insurance Company in a venture to raise money for Centre for Dreams.
The event allowed fair-goers to enjoy a tethered hot air balloon ride in exchange for a donation.
“Since our company has been on Main Street Markham for some time, we know how important it is to give back to the community that has supported us as a local business for over 50 years.
“We thought it would be appropriate to join with one of our neighbours, the Centre for Dreams, for this event.
“The great work their people do on our street, and how they take pride in making a positive difference in our community is a great inspiration,” Greg Weeks said.
Although the weather kept the balloon grounded for much of the fair, the money raised for the tethered rides and raffle that was held prior to the Fair Weekend was $1,140.
Through $500 gifts from AVIVA- Pilot Insurance and Carson and Weeks Insurance, the total was $2,140.
The Centre for Dreams provides educational services and vocational training for intellectually challenged individuals.
The winner of the balloon flight raffle was Rebecca Dicks who enjoyed a 40-minute cruise with friend Carley McKean and ticket seller Russell Weeks, over Port Perry and surrounding area.
