Thornhill resident Jonathon Frankel may not be a profession soccer player, but he was front and centre earlier this month at BMO Field, home of Toronto FC.

Mr. Frankel was recognized as the Bank of Montreal Community Hero of the Game, which recognizes anyone who has made a difference in their community.

For the past 10 years, Mr. Frankel has participated in the Becel Ride for Heart, riding 75 kilometres to raise funds for the charity.

He also spent time promoting soccer and healthy active lifestyles by organizing soccer clinics for children.

As the Community Hero of the Game, Mr. Frankel presided over the pre-game coin toss with Toronto Football Club captain Jim Brennan and Chicago Fire captain Cuauhtemoc Blanco, before taking in Toronto’s 3-2 win from a luxury box and going home with a Toronto Football Club jersey and tickets to a game next season.

If you know of someone who should be a hero of the game for next season, nomination forms can be found at www.torontofc.ca
