A man faces impaired driving charges after a crash in Newmarket yesterday.
At about 2:10 p.m., York Regional Police were called about a silver Suzuki travelling west on Davis Drive at a high rate of speed and weaving in and out of traffic, police spokesperson Const. Marina Orlovski said.
The caller was unable to continue following the vehicle and police began searching for it.
Police were then called about a crash at Bayview and McBean avenues, south of Mulock Drive.
“It matched the same description of what the person called in with,” Const. Orlovski said of a vehicle involved in the crash.
A driver was waiting to turn left from McBean to northbound Bayview and saw a silver Suzuki approach from southbound Bayview, make a right turn at a high rate of speed and then strike another vehicle, Const. Orlovski said.
“It looks like (York) EMS detected the odour of alcohol when they were checking everybody out,” she said.
A 29-year-old Newmarket man is charged with impaired driving, driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in the blood and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
He is scheduled to appear in court May 30.
