Two York Region schools are being recognized for taking the road to better health.

York Catholic District School Board and The Coalition for a Tobacco-Free York Region encouraged families to make their vehicles smoke-free zones.

The campaign was to educate Grade 4 students about the dangers of second-hand cigarette smoke.

Students participated in classroom activities and an information package was sent home about the negative impact smoke can have on health.

Ballots were submitted by participating families for a draw for an iPod.

The winners were Isaac Mills from Newmarket’s St. John Chrysostom Elementary and Stephanie Vong from Markham’s San Lorenzo Ruiz Elementary.

St. Anne and Our Lady of the Annunciation schools won $250 Scholastic gift certificates for submitting the most ballots.
