A bail hearing for a Newmarket caterer charged with sexually assaulting two girls was put over for another week this morning. Shawn Ahluwalia, 31, has appeared in Newmarket courtrooms, usually briefly, at least eight times since York Regional Police announced his arrest Feb. 21.
Mr. Ahluwalia, who appeared clad in his familiar red shirt, dark pants and shackles, was told his next court appearance is scheduled for May 14.
Between January and February, York Regional Police say, two 10-year-old girls were inappropriately touched while at Just For You Catering in Newmarket, which was owned by Mr. Ahluwalia.
Armed with search warrants, police searched the man’s Newmarket home and business, seizing several computers, a camera and photographs.
He was charged with two counts of sexual assault.
On Feb. 28, during a court appearance, another charge — possession of child pornography — was laid against Mr. Ahluwalia.
The pornography charge is not connected to the original charges of sexual assault, according to police.
Today, the unit that housed Just For You Catering, located at 207 Eagle St., was completely empty.
White paper blocked out the front window and a sign declaring the unit avialable for rent was posted on the door.
Mr. Ahluwalia’s defence is being handled by lawyer Joseph Bloomenfeld.
