Newmarket’s historic downtown will come alive with the sound of music Sunday as Quartetto Gelato arrives in town to perform La Piazza Concert.

The show gets under way at 7 p.m. on July 20 at the Market Square located at Botsford and Main streets.

Those who attend the one-night-only performance will be treated to music, cabaret seating and complimentary refreshments all beneath a tent that will be erected over the square specifically to accommodate the show.

The sweet sounds at Sunday’s concert come courtesy of internationally acclaimed musicians, Quartetto Gelato. Since their debut in 1994, the quartet has toured the world and delighted audiences all over with their shows that have been described as endearing, skilled, precise, light-hearted and injected with humour.

Quartetto Gelatto is made up of Kornel Wolak on clarinet, cellist Carina Reeves, pianist and accordion player Alexander Sevastian and, Peter DeSotto singing tenor and also playing the violin and mandolin.

Apart from giving live performances, the group has recorded several CDs, which have, themselves, been heard by fans around the globe and featured as part of movie soundtracks.

Two of their albums, Rustic Chivalry and their self-titled debut, found their way into outer space accompanying Canadian astronaut, Dr. Robert Thirsk, during a NASA mission in 1997.

Tickets for this Sunday’s out-of-this-world performance are limited, with only 200 available, and are selling for $26.50 each. Tickets may be obtained by calling the Newmarket Theatre’s box office at 905-953-5122 or visiting newmarkettheatre.ca.
