Keswick’s Tyler Mort was selected by the Kingston Frontenacs in the  second  round of last weekend’s Ontario Hockey League draft.

There were 22,000 players from which to choose.

The six-foot, one-inch tall, 185-pound defenceman started playing in Georgina at age four.

After three years of being the AA team captain, Mort was approached by the York Simcoe Express AAA team where he played for four seasons.

Mort has been considered one of the top defenseman in the province.

He is a tireless player known for top-notch defensive play, stamina, size and offensive threat, his coaches said.

Mort holds a 92 per cent average as a Grade 10 student at Keswick High School.

The Frontenacs have offered him a full university scholarship he can use after completing his hockey career.

He makes the road trip to the Kingston arena later this summer to begin his OHL career.

The team has a fan base that fills a new 5,000-seat arena for most home games.
