Two-time Olympic medallist Karen Cockburn continued her comeback from knee surgery with a trampoline victory Sunday at the All Canada Olympic selection competition in Terrebonne, Que. A resident of Stouffville, Cockburn, 27, tabulated 107.5 points with world championship medallist Rosannagh MacLennan of King City second at 101.3.
Cockburn also won the first Olympic selection event last month in Kamloops, B.C.
She was pleased with the resulting, noting she has increased the level of difficulty in her routines.
“I came close to some of my highest scores in my career,” she said. “I was really happy with it. I
increased my degree of difficulty from the last competition and that was a really good test for an upcoming World Cup event as well.”
Just as important, Cockburn was quick to point out her injured knee responded fairly well to the rigors of the competition.
“The knee is doing very well,” she said. “We did this competition on the European trampolines, which will be used at the Olympics. These trampolines are a lot harder on the body and I think now.
"I’m doing all right. There’s still pain but I’m staying on top of it as best I can.”
The competition is the second of three domestic events in the Olympic selection process. The third event is the Canadian championships June 2 to 7 in Calgary.
