They started with a 9-4 loss to the Barrie Tornado Friday at Mt. Joy Arena.

The Sunday verdict was a 10-3 loss to Nepean.

Mackley scored twice for the Ironheads, who trailed 5-2 after one period and 7-3 through two. Vertolli had the other marker.

Now 2-5-0 on the season and fourth place in the Mid East Division of the Eastern Conference, Markham plays at Halton Hills today at 8 p.m.

Mann in spotlight at British rugby tourney

Lawson Mann earned his first three international caps while playing for the Canadian under-17 boys’ rugby team at the Millfield tournament in England.

The Markham District High School student played an integral role for Canada as it went undefeated in three games against Romania 48-0, France 38-15 and Portugal 25-12.

Mann earned starting assignments in two games including one at wing against France, a powerhouse that had come off a win over England, and at fullback against Portugal.

For Canada, going undefeated marked their most successful appearance at the tournament.
