Mosquito Jays welcome tournament field Friday
Play is scheduled to resume this morning in the inaugural Aurora Jays mosquito baseball tournament.
The three-day event started Friday night with eight teams, including the host Jays and Newmarket Hawks, in the running for top honours.
Play resumes with games starting at 9 a.m. The championship game is scheduled for today at 2 p.m.
Brennan earns berth for MLS all-star game
Newmarket native Jim Brennan has been named to the reserve roster for the 2008 Pepsi MLS All-Star Game to be played Thursday night at BMO Field in Toronto.
The 31-year-old defender and captain of Toronto FC is the first member of the franchise named to the 18-player active roster for the all-star game.
The MLS stars will square off against West Ham United of the English Premier League. Brennan, who has started in 13 of 14 games he has played this season, has two assists.
Hawks rally in 7th to grab title
Adam Brown singled in the winning run as the Newmarket Hawks rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh inning to edge the North York Blues 4-3 in the final of the Oshawa Legionaires tournament. Travis Lawrence had three hits for the Hawks.
After winning its round-robin pool, Newmarket topped the Ajax Spartans 3-1 in semifinal action to qualify for the final.
