Vaughan draws Brampton in playoffs
Mike Hayakawa

It all fell into place on the last weekend of the Canadian Soccer League’s regular season for the Vaughan Italia Shooters.

Facing Toronto Croatia with first place on the line, the Shooters got a hat trick from Murphy Wiredo as they thumped Toronto 6-1 to win the International Division and earn the second seed in the playoffs.

Wiredo scored his goals at 18, 49 and 54 minutes for the Shooters after Carlo Cudini opened the scoring after just two minutes.

Kadian Leckie made it 5-0 at 79 minutes.

After David Kadoic scored for Croatia at 86 minutes, the Shooters restored their five-goal margin on a goal by Jelani Smith before the final whistle.

The Shooters, who finish 13-6-3, face the Brampton Lions Friday at Esther Shrine Stadium in North York.

The Lions were 8-9-5 this year and finished in third place in the National Division.
