The Ontario Hockey League announced Monday that Barrie Colts’ forward Stefan Della Rovere was chosen as the Boston Pizza OHL Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 5.
The 18-year-old Maple resident earned the distinction after scoring four goals and three assists for seven points in two games.
A seventh round draft pick by the Washington Capitals in the 2008 National Hockey League amateur draft, Della Rovere put the Colts on the scoreboard early in last Thursday’s 4-3 overtime loss against the visiting Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds with a power play goal.
He was credited with an assist that tied the game early in the third period.
Della Rovere followed that effort with a three-goal, two-assist effort last Saturday in the Colts’ 7-2 win over the visiting Windsor Spitfires.
His first career OHL hat-trick included a first period goal to open the scoring, a second period power-play insurance marker, and a late third period shorthanded tally.
The Colts’ team captain was named the first star of the game.
