Was last winless squad in 37-team Ontario Junior Hockey League
King City’s Villanova College Knights are winless no longer this season.
The second-year franchise in the Ontario Junior Hockey League won its first game in 11 starts this year, 7-5 over the Seguin Bruins at York University in Toronto Friday.
Villanova was the last of the 37 teams in the league to earn a win.
Villanova captain Mark D Alessandro, a Woodbridge resident, had two goals and an assist. The 20-year-old, who had 10 points in 38 games last year, now has 11 in as many game this season.
Elsewhere, the Aurora Tigers survived a scare at home, defeating the lowly Streetsville Derbys 4-3. Another Woodbridge puckster, Michael Sardella, had the hat trick for the Tigers.
Aurora resident Ryan Carlisle was in net for Streetsville, which was outshot 48-31, in his first game of the season.
In Markham, the hometown Waxers lost to the arch-rival St. Michael’s Buzzers, 6-3.
The Buzzers, who were outshot 37-28, rode goaltender Dayn Belfour, son of ex-NHLer Ed Belfour.
On Saturday night, the Vaughan Vipers visit Mississauga and Aurora plays at Seguin.
