By: Jim Thomas

The date is  June 25. I need your help.

On this occasion, a special evening of music will be enjoyed at Stouffville United Church. It’s  part of our town’s Strawberry Festival.

The Men of Note and vocalist Susan Brown will entertain. The concert begins at 8 p.m. But there’s more.

During the program, one person is receiving the 2008 Music Town, Ontario award. Who will it be?

The choice is yours. However, the selection committee has established one condition: The individual must have made a valid contribution to the town’s musical heritage.

Nominations are being accepted. You may write me: Jim Thomas, 381 Rupert Avenue, Stouffville, L4A 1T2; e-mail me at: thomas-jim@rogers.com or phone me at 905-640-3455. The deadline is June 6.

To refresh memories, previous award recipients have been: Lorne Boadway and Jim Rehill (1991), Clarion Baker and Jean Hammond (’92), Alma Oldham and The Wright Family (’93), Bertha Stouffer and Julia Topping (’94), David Boyd (’95), Lawnie Wallace (’96), Jean Thomas (’97); Kathi Phillips (’98), Doris Harvey (’99), Ann Gage, (2000), Gary Burke and Vince Parry (2001), David and Sharon Baxter (2002), Wanda Stride (2003), Wayne Hill, (2004), Laurie D’Alessandro (2005), David Duggan (2006) and Pat Wild (2007).

Mrs. Wild, director of music at Stouffville United Church, is making the presentation. The recipient will participate in the June 28 festival parade.
