Karen Cockburn special guest at new downtown festival

You can meet Olympic medallist Karen Cockburn at a new festival in Stouffville next weekend.

The three-time Games medal winner will sign autographs at Stouffvillicious “ A Taste of Harvest” Saturday, Sept. 13, at 2 p.m.

The festival, sponsored by the Stouffville BIA, goes from noon until 6 p.m. in downtown Stouffville.

Ms Cockburn, who won silver in Beijing last month, will be escorted in a mini parade from Success Square to the train station at 1:45 p.m. The Stouffville resident will then meet and greet fans at Candlelight and Memories.

Other features of the festival include:

• Local produce will be incorporated into menus at participating restaurants

• York-Durham Heritage Railway will offer $5 scenic train rides

• Children can make small scarecrows with materials supplied by the BIA at the Clock Tower square.

• Markham Fair’s mascot will be on hand to promote the upcoming fall fair
 
• Buckingham Manor, at Main Street and O’Brien Avenue, will be offering free food samples during an open house.

• Many downtown merchants will be offering specials

• Music will be available on the patios at The Earl of Whitchurch and Crossroads
