Re: Green power not option for peaker plant, letter to the editor by Richard Johnson, Oct. 9.
Mr. Johnson tried to dispel the unwarranted paranoia generated by the construction of a natural gas-fired peaker plant.
His arguments were logical and succinct.
He summed up a point in one paragraph on which I would like to elaborate.
In all built-up areas in York Region, your neighbours are more than likely burning natural gas to heat their homes and water.
But they are just the tip of the metaphorical iceberg.
All the large stores in which you stop, as well as the smaller ones and restaurants, use this fuel.
Add to this your church, hospital and government, apartment and office buildings and you can see it is impossible to escape the dreaded “plume” given off by burning natural gas.
Actually, this plume is carbon dioxide and water vapor, which is what we all breathe out when we exhale.
Live with it. It’s far better and cheaper than any practical alternative at this time and in the foreseeable future.
