Health Canada is advising consumers not to use several foreign health products that may be available in York Region.

Products named Fat Killer, Carbohydrate Cut, Sugar-Carbohydrate Cut or Zhuang Yao Gu Shen Capsule should be avoided due to concerns about possible serious side effects, such as leg cramps, stomach pain, mood changes, chest pain and painful menstruation and urination, to name a few.

The first three items contain the prescription drug sibutramine, as well as an unauthorized substance similar in structure to sibutramine. Zhuang Yao Gu Shen Capsule contains the prescription drug sildenafil.

The federal health agency also lists a product known as Lu Quan as potentially dangerous because it contains the undeclared prescription drugs glibenclamide and sildenafil. It may cause serious side-effects.

These products are not authorized for sale in Canada and have not been found in the Canadian marketplace, but they may have been brought into the country by travellers or purchased over the Internet.
