A Toronto man was sentenced to nine years in jail after pleading guilty to a 2007 Vaughan robbery.
May 12, the man pleaded guilty to two counts of robbery while armed with a firearm and one count each of pointing a firearm, discharge firearm, forcible confinement, fail to stop for police, breach of probation and breach of a prohibition order.
He was given credit for four years of pre-trial custody and will now serve five additional years.
He also received a lifetime weapons prohibition, a three-year driving prohibition that starts when he is released from jail and must give a DNA sample.
June 11, 2007 at about 1:10 p.m., York Regional Police responded to a robbery at Promenade Mall.
When police arrived on the scene, they saw the man fleeing across Bathurst Street.
A mall security officer and police chased the man on foot.
During the chase, the man turned and fired at police and one officer returned fire.
The man then broke into a home on Rodeo Drive and forced two women into a van in the garage.
Police chased the vehicle with Air2 helicopter monitoring.
At Keele Street and Hwy. 7, the suspect lost control and the van came to a halt.
Officers arrested the man without incident.
