Do you wonder what students in Whitchurch-Stouffville’s elementary schools are creating?

You can find out by checking out Celebrations: the Young at Art at the Latcham Gallery in downtown Stouffville.

The annual showcase of art by school children celebrates the creativity, energy and ideas of children.

The show, sponsored by Stouffville Connects, opened yesterday and runs through May 24.

“Filling the gallery from floor to ceiling, these works of art from paintings to prints, sculptures to sketchbooks bring life and colour to the town,” gallery director Roz Pritchard said.

The exhibition includes work done by students from 10 local public, Catholic and private schools.

The final day of the run is also a Free Family Art Day at the gallery. Junior artists will be able to make their own artist trading cards from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The artist cards are similar to hockey cards, but with your own original art on them. You can make a set of cards and start trading.

The family days, sponsored by the RBC Foundation, are held one Saturday a month. They are led by an artist from the current exhibition, the curator or an instructor.

The gallery is at 6240 Main St. Call 905-640-8954.
