Travis Welder allowed one hit over five innings and Anthony Douris supplied two innings of hitless relief as the Newmarket Hawks opened their Toronto Baseball Association regular season last night with a 3-1 victory over the visiting Whitby Chiefs at McKnight Field.

Justin Grady and Neil Paterson each had two hits for Newmarket which broke a 1-1 tie with a pair of runs in the fourth inning.
