For those about to rock, we salute you.

That’s the theme of the inaugural Battle of the Rock Bands competition taking place at Newmarket’s Upper Canada Mall this week.

Hot on the heavy-metal-heels of the mall’s Guitar Hero competition, the shopping centre is at it again challenging bands made up of virtual guitar players, drummers and singers to battle it out and ascend to the level of Upper Canada Mall Rock Gods.

Competitors will be limited to competing within certain age groups with one category for those 18 and under, another for people 19 and over and a third for families.

Those who rock out the hardest in each category will score a $500 Upper Canada Mall gift card for each band member and also star as cartoon characters in the next episode of My Teen Lounge. The competition began July 14, with the 18 years and under group squaring off, and ends July 18 with the finals.  For more information, visit myteenlounge.com.
