A few around these parts have wondered: You know Dave Wood Mazda on the north side of Mulock Drive just west of Bayview Avenue in Newmarket? Well there’s a Mazda parked across the road, on the south side, next to a sign that says “Here We Grow Again.” Is the dealership moving or something? What’s up?

I’m glad other people asked this, because, I’ll admit, I’ve been asking myself this same question for a while now, since I pass by that car and dealership on my daily commute.

I suppose I could have just made up a question and gone ahead and answered it but, then again, this is called You Asked For It not I asked for it.

To figure out what the story was with the mystery machine on the south side of Mulock, I decided to go to the source and contact Dave Wood.

He seemed somewhat surprised by the questions coming in to The Era-Banner, but pleased his sign was getting people’s attention.

Mr. Wood confirmed he owns the five acres opposite his dealership and said it will eventually be used to expand the business.

Even now, Mr. Wood said he is working with the town to figure out all the logistics.

“This is to further look after the ever-growing automotive needs of the Region of York and, of course, the Town of Newmarket.”

Business has been good of late, Mr. Wood said, and rising demand for gas-sipping vehicles has been fuelling the necessity to grow. That will undoubtedly continue as the current trend in gas prices, or insanity as I refer to it, shows no signs of letting up.

“I have been in the automobile business in Newmarket for 40 years and I have to admit the interest in fuel-efficient cars has never been better than now,” Mr. Wood said.

In any case, keep your eyes peeled along the south side of Mulock Drive, because, sooner or later, it sounds like you’ll be seeing some more zoom zoom.
