A Markham man was sentenced to eights years behind bars for his role in an armed robbery last year.

Yang Yang, 23, pleaded guilty earlier this month to robbery with a firearm and forcible confinement in a May 2007 robbery at a home in the Kennedy Road and Hwy. 7 area.

On Friday, Justice William Gorewich credited Mr. Yang for the three months he spent in pre-trial custody and will serve more than seven years in prison, York Regional Police said Monday.

On May 28, 2007 at about 10 p.m., three men armed with handguns approached a 45-year-old man as he arrived at his Dundee Crescent home and forced him inside.

Three more men entered the home and bound the man and seven other people inside.

The men ransacked the house, taking cash and property, police said.

During the robbery, two other people visiting the home arrived to the front door, were forced inside and tied up, police said.

No one was hurt during the home invasion, which lasted about two hours.

Due to work by officers who processed the home for evidence, a probe into the robbery led to Mr. Yang’s arrest.

On Monday, investigators continued to hunt for the other robbers in the case.

They are described as male, Asian, between five-feet three-inches and five-feet seven-inches tall with thin to average builds, between 18 and 30-years-old. They spoke English and Mandarin. Most were wearing camouflage clothes and at least two were armed with handguns.
