Mites, squirts ousted at OASAs

The Stouffville Storm mite boys advanced to the quarter-finals of the Ontario Amateur Softball Association championships in Elmvale before they were eliminated 5-4 by Walkerton.

“We went into the provincials knowing that we had a good shot at doing well and that we could compete with any team there,” Storm head coach Kelly Matthews said. “Over the season, we had beaten all the contenders. It was just one of those weekends, almost every hard hit we had was right at someone, and theirs found just enough holes to make the difference.

“However, it doesn’t diminish how outstanding a year this team enjoyed, three tournament titles and the upcoming York Durham league final. I wouldn’t hesitate to play anyone, anytime with this great group of nine and 10 year olds.”

The Storm opened the tournament dropping an 8-3 decision to Cobourg. But they rebounded to defeat Elmvale 11-2.

In other OASA action at Waterloo, the Storm squirt squad was quickly eliminated after losing their first two games against Cobourg 15-3 and Napanee 9-6.
