Mark Sept. 14 on your calendar for Markham-Unionville’s edition of the Terry Fox Run in support of cancer research.

It’s a perfect time to join family or friends in a fun atmosphere and help a great cause that was inspired by Terry Fox’s historic cross-Canada run and has raised more than $400 million since 1980.

Organizers of the Markham-Unionville run are challenging the community to raise $50,000 this year.

Participants can run-walk-stroll the two 5km loops of scenic Toogood Pond in old Unionville (starts at the library off Main Street).

There is no pre-registration, minimum donation or registration fee for the run. Just show up before the 9 a.m. start or join in later.

The run ends at noon.

You are welcome to collect pledges, form a team and challenge others to join in.

An astounding 87 per cent of all money raised goes directly to research, with only 13 per cent going to administration and fundraising.

This makes the Terry Fox Foundation one of the most responsible and efficient charitable groups.

Volunteers are also welcome and play a big part in the success of the run.
